Mets Turn To Groupon To Boost Sagging Season Ticket Sales

Move over Fred Coupon, here comes Fred Groupon?  Just one day after announcing that Mets ownership would be looking to sell off about 25% of the team, the Mets unveiled a new deal on the popular coupon website Groupon.com.

The deal offers anyone who buys a Field Box Platinum season ticket for the low low price of just under fifteen thousand dollars will receive an additional season ticket for free.  The catch?  Your free season ticket is for the 2036 season.

Dave Howard explained the promotion to The Apple:
"What we're trying to do is get as much revenue in now and not worry so much about the future.  As it stands in 2036 we'll have Bobby Bonilla money coming off the books so that will subsidize some of the cost of giving away free tickets.  Of course there is also the possibility that the world will end in 2012 in which case it's all profit."
But what about inflation?  It seems the Mets have thought of that too.
"Our current ticket pricing structure is modeled in such away that not only are our tickets overpriced now, but even with no changes, they will still be overpriced in 2036."
If you want to take advantage of this limited time offer, head over to groupon.com now...and then go have your head examined.
