Once More Unto The Breach: One Last Mets Tailgate Tomorrow At 10AM

The stage is set. Dickey standing on 19 wins, looking to become the first Mets pitcher to win 20 games since...I don't know let's just say Gooden. I don't feel like looking it up.  In any event, it's time to tailgate. But not just any tailgate...the last Mets tailgate EVER!

As you all know, the world is scheduled to come to an end sometime around December of this year. That makes this the final season of Mets baseball so why not go out on a full stomach. Join us for food, drinks and fun as we party at Citi Field for one last time before Cthulhu arrives.
As always, there will be hot dogs on the grill and cold "beverages". All are welcomed to join. (First come first served while supplies last. Food donations welcomed. BYOB encouraged.)

Here's a map. The Apple logo shows the location of the tailgate.

Oy Bay: Mets Ask Jason Bay Not To Play On Yom Kippur Despite Not Being Jewish

The New York Mets have granted Jason Bay's request to not play during Yom Kippur. There's only one problem; the beleaguered Mets outfielder never made the request. Bay, who isn't Jewish, insists that at no time did he ask for the holiday off and has declared himself eligible to play against the Pirates. The Mets however are sticking to their guns.

Mets Celebrate First Ever Souvenir Cup Championship With Sweep Of Marlins

Mets organization is presented with the cup at City Hall
In a season that has already seen the Mets make history with their first no-hitter, the team can now add another first to their list of accomplishments. On Saturday afternoon, the Mets clinched the organization's first ever "Souvenir Cup" championship. The award, largely a marketing gimmick to generate buzz for two terrible teams and sell some Pepsi in the process, was created by Major League Baseball just hours before the start of the Mets-Marlins weekend series.

Mets And Marlins Set To Battle For Prestigious "Souvenir Cup" This Weekend

In hopes of generating buzz for an otherwise unwatchable three days of baseball, Major League Baseball has designated this weekend's Mets-Marlins series "The Souvenir Cup".

The winner of the series will be crowned Souvenir Cup Champions and be presented with a trophy. The "trophy" is not exactly as prestigious as the Stanley Cup as it consists of a 32 ounce plastic cup hot glued to a plastic base.

Pepsi has agreed to sponsor the award and will fill the cup with 32 ounces of the winning team's choice of sugary beverage to celebrate their victory. However, in the event the Mets win they will only be allowed 16 ounces in accordance with Mayor Michael Bloomberg's wishes.

Link: Emma Span Thinks R.A. Dickey Is Kind Of A Big Deal

If you follow me on Twitter then you probably already know about my admiration for all things Emma Span. If not, you need to check out this article on R.A. Dickey over at sportsonearth.com.  It's a great read by one of my favorite writers. The Apple's "...Because every five days we don't suck!" slogan even makes a cameo.

Mets Fan Will Be Forced To Watch Mets As Part Of Punishment For Running On Field During No Hitter

A somber Diaz previews his new front row seat.
Mets fan Rafael Diaz of Massapequa pleaded guilty in a Queens court Thursday to a misdemeanor crime for running on the field after Johan Santana's no-hitter on June 1. It was originally speculated that the Diaz would receive a lifetime ban from Citi Field and some fines but it turns out the judge had something far worse in store for the lifelong Mets fan.

Beginning on September 17, Diaz will be forced to watch every inning of Mets baseball. That's right, every horrific inning.

Mets Players Ask MLB To Move All Remaining Sunday Games To Night Starts To Accommodate Their Football Watching

The Apple has learned that all of the New York Mets' players and most of the team's coaches have signed and sent to Commissioner Bud Selig a most unusual request.  In their petition, they request that the league move all the team's remaining scheduled Sunday afternoon games into the evening.

It is a long rambling request so in the interest of saving space - or in this case, bandwidth - we will just quote excerpts:

Mets Will Host Michael Kay Night Friday Vs. Braves

Before the start of the 2012 Major League Baseball season, New York radio "personality" Michael Kay predicted the Mets would win between 55-59 games and be a 100+ loss team. During their recent road trip, the Mets surpassed his prediction and brought their win total to a gaudy 65. To celebrate this triumphant  accomplishment, the Mets will celebrate "Michael Kay Night" on Friday, September 7 when they return to Citi Field to take on the Atlanta Braves.  As part of the promotion, the first 15,000 fans entering Citi Field for the 7:10 PM game will receive a commemorative t-shirt.

Umpire Rackley Returns To Action Tonight With Help From New Glasses

Umpire Dave Rackley returns to action tonight, just one night after his controversial 9th inning appeal cost the Mets a chance to come back against the Cardinals. Rackley stands behind his call but will have some new help tonight in the form of a new pair of glasses he got "about an hour" after last night's game ended.
