Mets Turn To NY Rangers For Celebration Inspiration

One of the things that endeared the NHL's scrappy New York Rangers team to its fanbase during the regular season was a tradition that they started.  At the end of each win on home ice, the players would come to center ice and raise their sticks "saluting" the fans.

Then the three stars of the game would be announced and each would skate onto the ice tossing a puck to some lucky fan in the stands.
The crack Mets PR staff has picked up on this and will have the club do a version of this starting during May's first homestand.

When the Mets win a home game all the players (and if there's room enough on the field it could include those players on the DL) will crowd around the pitcher's mound raising their gloves in salute to the fans.  If attendance continues to falter they may even consider shouting out each individual fan's name.

Then the P.A. announcer will announce the three stars of the game.  Each will come out in turn and throw a puck up into the stands for some lucky fan.

  1. Funny, I thought what endeared the Rangers to Mets fans is that they tried really really hard to collapse, but the NFL pretty much lets everyone into the playoffs anyway so they couldn't quite manage it.

  2. Um...The Rangers are a hockey team. They are not part of the NFL. And in case you weren't sure, the NHL let's the top 8 teams in the playoffs just like MLB.

  3. seems to be a fair point all around. Yeah, the NHL lets more team into the playoffs than it sends home.

Also, I generally go with 'moron' not 'idiot'.

This year I hear that every team in the NFL is going to go undefeated AND not make the playoffs.
