I had no intention of bringing up Game of Thrones today but my fellow bloggers started some interesting comparisons between Mets ownership and the HBO mega-hit, which begins it's third season tonight.

Over at Metpolice.com, the Amazon.com bestselling author Shannon Shark believes that the Mets are the Lannisters.

Here, he paints the picture of a team clumsily led by the child king Jeffy Joffrey:

...the kingdom is run by the son of the previous ruler.  The new leader is not particularly well liked and some question his leadership abilities. His upbringing has led him to be completely out of touch with the common folk, not that he cares.

Mets Cave To Fan Pressure And Reschedule Banner Day...Sort Of

One year after a blogger campaign led to the return of Banner Day at Citi Field in 2012, the Mets have again listened to cries from the blogosphere regarding the scheduling of the beloved tradition.

Originally scheduled as a noon event on Sunday, May 26th, before a 1 PM game vs. the Atlanta Braves, the event's timing was thrown off when the game was chosen as the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game of the week. This meant the parade of banners around the warning track would happen sometime before the 8:05 game.

The Apple Nominated For 3 Mazzy Awards

On Saturday, Mets bloggers and fans will be gathering at Donovan's Pub in Woodside, Queens for the first ever live Mazzy Awards. The Mazzys, invented by those scamps over at MetsPolice.com, started as a virtual awards show which existed entirely on their blog.  This year however, the event is going live because the only thing bloggers like more than patting themselves on the back is being able to drink while doing it.

The Apple has been nominated in three categories, Best Writer, Best Looking and Fan of the Year.

I don't expect to take home any hardware.

Shannon from MetsPolice celebrates the return of Banner Day

Earlier today at Citi Field, the Mets announced the first stages of their 50th Anniversary celebration which of course celebrates 51 seasons of Mets baseball.  The biggest news was a return to the blue and orange uniforms of yesteryear and the return of Banner Day.  It was a big day for our buddies over at Mets Police who have been campaigning for years for the Mets to simplify their unis and bring back banner day.  Congrats Shannon.  Read the press release over at MetsPolice.com.

The Apple Goes Green For St. Patty's Day

Don't adjust your screens folks, there's nothing wrong with your computer.  In honor of St. Patty's day, The Apple will be sporting a green look until the 17th.  After that it will go back to blue...or maybe black just to piss off Shannon from MetsPolice.

In case you haven't already read about it on Mets Police or On The Black, a few of us got together on Saturday night to celebrate our hopeless addiction to Mets baseball.  The group consisted of Kerel Cooper (On The Black), Shannon Shark (Mets Police) and Mike Donato (Optimistic Mets Fan). Personally for me it was an enlightening evening as I learned a lot about the Mets and life in general.  Here are a few of the things I learned:

So apparently, the guys over at Mets Police though it would be cute to blow up an Apple in effigy as part of our escalating beef.  That's fine guys, have your fun.  But just remember that you shouldn't piss off the guy who does 90% of the graphics for your little website. Enjoy.

Blogger War: Fixing The Mets Police Movie Trailer

So apparently, after feeling threatened by The Apple, the guys over at Mets Police spent all this money and bought some kind of fancy movie equipment to "compete" with what I do on the cheesy Windows Movie Maker that came on my netbook.  To be fair the "Movie Trailer" they came up with was pretty good, but it lacked a certain element to make it a movie people would want to see.

I fixed it for them at no charge.  Watch the video after the jump and see if you even notice the difference.

Mets Police's Awesome Mets 2011 Trailer

In the latest salvo of the ongoing "beef" between The Apple and Mets Police, someone calling themselves "Media Goon" put together this amazing movie trailer style promo for the upcoming Mets season.  While it is no surprise that Mr. Shark over at Mets Police has resorted to hired goons, I have to say this video is a thousand times better than what the Mets have put out so far.  As an added bonus this video does not include a Sandy Alderson robo-call.  Well done Goon!  Watch the video after the jump and then go here and tell Shannon to fight me one on one like a man.

The Apple Wins Mazzilli Award For Blog Of The Year

Monday night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, the best and the brightest in the Mets blogosphere were gathered together for the 2010 Mets Police Awards or the Mazzilli's as they are more commonly referred to.  These awards, given out by Shannon Shark of the fan advocacy site metspolice.com, honor excellence in the Mets online community.

The night was a time to honor many of the more well known names in the blogosphere.  Greg Prince from Faith and Fear took home the best writer award while Michael Baron from MetsPhotos.com won for, you guessed it, best photos.  Metsblog's Matthew Cerrone took home the lifetime achievement Mazzilli for being the "Most Powerful Man In The Mets Blogosphere".

But the surprise of the night came when The Apple was chosen as blog of the year.  We here at The Apple are humbled by this honor.  And while we feel there are many more blogs deserving of this honor (cough...cough... Pauls Random Stuff...cough...cough) we would like to point out that no one did more butt kissing than us to get it.

So on behalf of everyone here at The Apple, which as you may know is me and occasionally Larry Smith, I graciously accept this award.  I didn't even mind it when Ted Berg jumped on the stage during my acceptance speech and shouted that Kerel Cooper has one of the best blogs of all time.
