The Apple Nominated For 3 Mazzy Awards

On Saturday, Mets bloggers and fans will be gathering at Donovan's Pub in Woodside, Queens for the first ever live Mazzy Awards. The Mazzys, invented by those scamps over at MetsPolice.com, started as a virtual awards show which existed entirely on their blog.  This year however, the event is going live because the only thing bloggers like more than patting themselves on the back is being able to drink while doing it.

The Apple has been nominated in three categories, Best Writer, Best Looking and Fan of the Year.

I don't expect to take home any hardware.

Mets Bloggers Leave Their Mom's Basements To Grill Meat / Watch Baseball

On April 8th 2011, several Mets bloggers left the safety of their mother's basements to watch their beloved team lose to the Nationals.  Among those in attendance were sandwich expert Ted Berg, Mets author extraordinaire Matt Silverman, optimistic Mets fan Mike "Ceetar" Donato, Mets t-shirt magnate Darren Meenan of The 7 Line, Twitter superstar Ramon "GrevensEpiphany" Martinez,  Apple fans Ron Mazzola and Richard Madison, and Kerel "too handsome to be photographed" Cooper of On The Black.

The Fonzie for Snazziest Intro To A Video Blog Goes To...

Kerel Cooper from On The Black.  Kerel wastes no time letting you know what he is about when you fire up one of his videos.  Within 10 seconds you know everything you need to know to be fully acclimated to On the Black.  Set to a haunting Hip Hop beat, the intro tells us that:

1. Kerel owns some Mets memorabilia which he has used to decorate his office
2. Kerel sometimes talks about the Mets outside while wearing his Mets winter hat
3. One time Kerel went to see David Wright speak at what appears to be a Chuck E. Cheese
4. Kerel knows Matt Cerrone, in fact they often participate in lighthearted banter

Kerel Cooper Is A Handsome Man and 3 Other Things I Learned Hanging Out With Other Mets Bloggers

In case you haven't already read about it on Mets Police or On The Black, a few of us got together on Saturday night to celebrate our hopeless addiction to Mets baseball.  The group consisted of Kerel Cooper (On The Black), Shannon Shark (Mets Police) and Mike Donato (Optimistic Mets Fan). Personally for me it was an enlightening evening as I learned a lot about the Mets and life in general.  Here are a few of the things I learned:

The Apple Wins Mazzilli Award For Blog Of The Year

Monday night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, the best and the brightest in the Mets blogosphere were gathered together for the 2010 Mets Police Awards or the Mazzilli's as they are more commonly referred to.  These awards, given out by Shannon Shark of the fan advocacy site metspolice.com, honor excellence in the Mets online community.

The night was a time to honor many of the more well known names in the blogosphere.  Greg Prince from Faith and Fear took home the best writer award while Michael Baron from MetsPhotos.com won for, you guessed it, best photos.  Metsblog's Matthew Cerrone took home the lifetime achievement Mazzilli for being the "Most Powerful Man In The Mets Blogosphere".

But the surprise of the night came when The Apple was chosen as blog of the year.  We here at The Apple are humbled by this honor.  And while we feel there are many more blogs deserving of this honor (cough...cough... Pauls Random Stuff...cough...cough) we would like to point out that no one did more butt kissing than us to get it.

So on behalf of everyone here at The Apple, which as you may know is me and occasionally Larry Smith, I graciously accept this award.  I didn't even mind it when Ted Berg jumped on the stage during my acceptance speech and shouted that Kerel Cooper has one of the best blogs of all time.
