Mets Opening Weekend Recap: Bloggers, Baseball and... Bears?

The Opening Weekend of the Mets season is over but it was a great weekend for the Metropolitans and a busy one for The Apple as well. Here's a look back:
THURSDAY APRIL 5TH: OPENING DAY
Opening Day means a lot of things to a lot of different people. For me, it means tailgating, and for the second year in a row, tailgating under the banner of The Apple.  This year was special because it marked the return of @MiFranzese to opening day tailgate action after spending last year's opener on the DL with a child's dance recital.  Joining us were most of the Optimistic Black Apple Police: Handsome blogger Kerel Cooper (@ontheblack) of On The Black, The Optimistic Mets Fan (@ceetar) & Media Goon of Mets Police (@mediagoon).  Additionally, Apple tailgate veterans Ron Mazzola and Luca Rispoli were there as well (once Ron got past the new Citi Field parking meters that is).  For Ceetar, it was an opportunity to make another crazy burger...and he did.
Excelent use of Cheetos
Tailgate newcomer Jennifer Burzenski joined the party and cemented her place as future leader of The Apple's street team by demonstrating her ability to hand out readtheapple.com stickers while simultaneously not getting run over by traffic.  Bravo Jen!

Of course, when you cook outdoors you always run the risk of attracting bears and sure enough, we did. Fortunately these were friendly bears Joey Beartran and some of his buddies.

They were accompanied by Ed LeyroTaryn Cooper & Denise Winter of  Studious MetsimusA Gal For All Seasons and Metscellaneous respectively.

SNY's Ted Berg joined us just before gametime and created this:
From there it was on to the ballpark to honor the great Gary Carter and watch the Mets take down the Braves 1-0.

SATURDAY APRIL 7TH: METS BASEBALL AND FRESH BAKED COOKIES
After watching the Mets win again 4-2 behind R.A. Dickey, it was off to Bounce Sports Lounge in NYC to talk baseball with @food_fashgirl of Style A la Mode, Ted Berg of Tedquarters and Sean Kenny of Mets Merized Online. We talked Mets for a bit but as one would expect, the conversation eventually turned to sandwiches, BBQ & Entenmanns donuts. As an added bonus any night that ends here is a good one.

SUNDAY APRIL 8TH: NIESE-TER SUNDAY
Jon Niese tried his best to provide a Niese-ter miracle but his no-hit bid fell short and he was forced to settle for a 7-5 victory over the Braves to complete the opening weekend sweep.  For the Mets it was a great start but for this Mets fan it was a perfect weekend.
