It would seem that after failing at convential methods of aquiring outfield talent, Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson is taking an unconventional route to upgrading his outfield. Alderson is reaching into a new untapped resource for talent...the Mets own front office.

For Norm Charlton & Others Mets Bullpen Could Be Shot At Return To The Bigs
Posted by
Anonymous
After a rather stagnant off-season highlighted only by the trade of Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey to Toronto for several top prospects the Mets gobbled up veteran relief pitchers for the 2013 staff.
LaTroy Hawkins, Scott Atchison, Pedro Feliciano, and Brandon Lyon have been signed and will have the chance to make the squad.
But the Alderson administration did not stop there. Believing that there is power in numbers - as long as those numbers are not on major league contracts - the Mets also offered minor league deals to the following players, all of whom have major league experience.

Exclusive: Did Mets Pitcher Tim Byrdak Injure Himself In An Unsanctioned Wrestling Match?
Posted by
Randy Medina
When Mets pitcher Tim Byrdak showed up at spring training dressed as Hulk Hogan this year, everyone had a good laugh. The laughter stopped when it was discovered Byrdak would have to start the year on the DL with a knee injury. But are the injury and the costume actually related?

Mets Being Sued For Copyright Infringement Over Underdog T-Shirts
Posted by
Randy Medina
It was supposed to be a motivational tool by Mets COO Jeff Wilpon to help rally his ballplayers, but as so often happens in Metsville the organization has once again found itself in legal trouble. On Monday, the team tweeted this image of a Mets shirt featuring the logo of cartoon hero Underdog. ESPN later reported that the shirts were ordered by Jeff Wilpon as a way of rallying the team. Innocent enough right?

Dear Diary,
It's been a while since I've written so I thought I'd catch you up on what's happening. Soon we'll be heading down to Florida to start to get ready for the 2012 Major League season. This is about the first time I'm going down there with a position, sort of.

Mets Name Lustin Emurphy Opening Day Second Baseman
Posted by
Randy Medina
Disheartened after weeks of watching a futile war of attrition for the second base job unfold at spring training, the Mets have changed tactics and named Lustin Emurphy the opening day second baseman. Lustin, pronounced "loose tin" would be an amalgamation of the four leading candidates for the job.

Due To Visa Problems Mets Ronny Paulino Will Attend Spring Training Via Teleconference

Fitting in with a new team can often be difficult for a player in the Major Leagues. The task is made doubly difficult when you are not allowed to be in the same country as your teammates. This is the problem facing the newest Mets catcher Ronny Paulino. Paulino's season ended inauspiciously last year when he was handed a 50 game suspension for violating the league's drug policy. Now the Dominican backstop is having a hard time obtaining a Visa to re-enter the US, presumably related to the very same drug suspension. In past years this may have been just another disaster for the Mets, but thanks to the Sandy Alderson regime, the team is making lemonade out of Paulino's lemons.

R.A. Dickey's Pre-Game Facial Stretching Routine Starting To Creep Out Teammates
Posted by
Randy Medina
Mets fans love R.A. Dickey, and with good reason. Besides being the Mets most reliable starter in 2010, Dickey also makes and awesome yelling face when he pitches. The man has mastered the art of throwing the softest pitch in baseball while making a face as if he was throwing the hardest pitch in baseball history.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson Not Ruling Out Trading Collins/Himself
Posted by
Randy Medina
The baseball world is all abuzz about the gleeful upbeat organized training camp Terry Collins has run for the Mets. His players have taken to his stewardship admirably and they seem to like their weekly bowling outings so much that Ike Davis says he might actually start sticking his fingers into the ball next time.

Mets Considered Shutting Down Spring Training Had MLB Loan Not Gone Through

Despite assurances that the Madoff-related law suit will not affect the team's finances, a source close to the Mets told The Apple that had Major League Baseball not agreed to lend the Mets 25 million dollars, the team was considering shuttering their spring training complex in Port St. Lucie.

Sandy Alderson Already Growing Tired Of Adam Rubin's Constant Lobbying

When Adam Rubin sees a job opening he goes after it. Apparently the ESPN reporter who once drew the ire of former Mets GM Omar Minaya has set his sights on a new prize: a spot in the Mets bullpen.
Mets Drop Both Ends Of Intrasquad Game Despite Successful Debut Of Jason Bay's Protective Suit

In what might be a harbinger of things to come both sides believe they lost yesterday's first intrasquad game of the year. Let's backtrack and cover the event.
After the team completed stretching and normal baseball drills manager Collins had the players practice some of their specialties. Ike Davis and the other firstbasemen practiced tumbling over the dugout railing attempting to snag foul balls. Meanwhile, Mookie Wilson introduced the outfielders to the outfield wall and suggested that slamming into it violently could lead to a four month headache.

Daniel Larusso's Gonna Fight...For A Spot In The Mets Outfield
Posted by
Randy Medina
Willie Harris, Scott Hairston and now Daniel Larusso. In keeping with their recent trend of signing anyone and everyone affordable who might be able to help in the outfield, the Mets have extended a spring training invite to fictional character Daniel Larusso.
The oft-injured Larusso is expected to compete for a spot in the crowded Mets outfield. Though not possessing much skill or coordination, Larusso's biggest asset seems to be his incredible tolerance for pain and his ability to recover quickly from a beating.

Terry Collins Going Through Rigorous Pre-Season Workout To Get Back Into "Fiery" Shape
Posted by
Randy Medina
One of the keys to the new Mets culture is its new manager. You see everything about the team in 2011 is new... well except for the players.
Terry Collins has been named to the position of "fiery manager" having replaced Jerry Manuel, "cool manager", who in turn, replaced Willie Randolph, "complacent manager."
