Koncept: "It's Amazin'" Mets Music Video

Whenever I hear someone has written a song about the Mets I cringe. I cringe even more when I hear it's a hip-hop track but I've got to give it up to Koncept and the guys at The 7 Line. Not only does this not suck, it's actually pretty damn catchy. I like that they stay away from player references which can instantly make a song seem dated. I give it 4 Apples out of 5. It's certainly better than that Ron Artest Mets song. If we can get a remix with Nas on it i'll bump that rating up to a 5. Check it out and judge for yourself.

A Message From Captain Shorts

Yesterday, I was pretty sure we had figured out the identity of Captain Shorts. I contacted the Mets and initially got no response but this morning a hand written note was left at my front door.  Allow me to share with you the contents of that note:

Conflicting Reports About The Identity Of Captain Shorts

Yesterday morning I received this tweet from Kevin Burkhardt seemingly ending all speculation as to the identity of Captain Shorts.
It seemed as though the mystery had finally been solved but then the Mets won the game and this figure appeared on our TV's:

This led to more speculation that the Captain is actually a man named Kevin Kierst.
So what do you think Mets fans. Is it Victorn or Kierst.  I've contacted the Mets and hope to have an answer for you shortly.

Mets Pitcher Jon Niese Rides Uniform Violations To Victory In Washington

Though no one at Major League Baseball would comment on it, Mets pitchers have been the target of a uniform violation crackdown in the last week. This is clearly part of a larger conspiracy to keep the Mets from finishing better than fourth in the division, thus preventing them from reaping all of the benefits that being a third place team entitles you to. While I'm not sure who would benefit from such a conspiracy, I can tell you one Mets player has decided to do something about it.

Fun With Kevin Burkhardt's Tweets

Once again Kevin, if you are going to tweet this...
...then I have to post this picture of the aftermath.

The Apple Uncovers Rejected First Draft Of Mets Kelly Shoppach Press Release

Yesterday, the Mets announced that they had acquired backup catcher Kelly Shoppach from the Red Sox. The team made the announcement via the standard press release. However, it turns out the Mets had originally drafted a more honest press release but scrapped the idea at the last minute.  Fortunately, The Apple has obtained a copy of this release and we are sharing it here. Enjoy!

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 14, 2012  The New York Mets today announced the team acquired catcher Kelly Shoppach from the Boston Red Sox on a waiver claim for a player to be named later.

We never had the intention of adding an actual major league player to platoon with Josh Thole but have begrudgingly decided to address the incessant chatter on Twitter, in the local newspapers, and especially from all those mindless bloggers who think they know everything since they read every word at Baseball Prospectus.

Meat The Mets: Pat LaFrieda Steak Sandwich Makes Bid For Second Half MVP

If you are a regular reader of The Apple, you know that I don't step out of character much, but last night I was given a chance to sample the new Pat LaFrieda Filet Mignon Sandwich being offered at Citi Field.  Before I try and describe it I'll let Mark Pastore, President of Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors, tell you all about it...

Mets Unveil 2 New Sandwiches At Citi Field: One Made Of Steak, The Other Made Out Of Jason Bay's Contract

The Bay-conator
Yesterday, Sandy Alderson stated that the Mets would not eat Jason Bay's contract. The Mets General Manager, however, did not say anything about the fans eating it. Tonight at Citi Field, the Mets will debut two new sandwiches. While one is a traditional steak sandwich, the second appears to be made entirely of Bay's bloated contract.

2013 Mets All-Star Game Logo?

Shannon over at MetsPolice posted some pictures tweeted earlier today by @twelve_twenty. The pictures seem to show an All-Star Game logo being assembled at Citi Field. Shannon speculates that the two pieces are halves of a whole logo.  I decided to take a quick shot at assembling the image and came up with this:
