Mets Leave 'Em Laughing: 2013 MLB All-Star Game TV Comedy Recap

The 2013 All-Star Game may be over, but it did leave us with some memorable TV comedy moments from some familiar Mets faces.

First up is the one Mets fans have been talking about for days, Matt Harvey interviewing New Yorkers about Matt Harvey:

This is too good. Up to now I would have never suspected Harvey would be the kind of guy who would do this kind of silly stuff. He may have grown up a Yankees fan but methinks this guy is a real Met after all. Go ahead and rewind to 1:30 to watch Matt's reaction to the "kinda saw him naked" comment a few more times. It's OK, I'll wait for you.

Lil' Murph's Diary: Lil' Murph Feels The Pressure

Dear Diary,

I know it's been a long while since I wrote anything here in you. Sorry, my bad.  I was waiting to be in a good stretch with both the team and myself doing well.  But since I can hardly remember back to when that was the case I figured I'd break down and update you right now seeing as how it's time for the All Star break.   The break is a time when us guys who are not All Stars  (ha, ha, - remember back when I was really hitting and some people thought I could be an All Star?) get to not play for a few days.   It's a time for our minor bumps and bruises to heal and get ready for the 2nd half's bumps and bruises.

I have to tell you diary that I can't shake this feeling in my bones that my days as a New York Metropolitan may be numbered.  The other day I was in our clubhouse and noticed that one of the empty lockers near mine now has a sign on it saying, "Future locker of Wilmer Flores."   Now I may not always be the sharpest knife in the drawer but I can put 2 and 2 together sometimes.  This Wilmer (not to be confused with the one from the Flintstones) is a young kid (like 21, ugh) who is hitting real good at Las Vegas and after trying to play every other position there is has settled in at second base -  MY SPOT!

Matt Harvey Wants To Start The All-Star Game...In The Nude

While it's no surprise that Matt Harvey wants to be the starting pitcher for the National League at the All-Star Game at Citi Field on Tuesday, the Mets ace raised some eyebrows while talking to reporters before the team's game against the Pirates on Saturday night.  Harvey, of body issue fame, stated his desire to pitch the game in the nude.

"This whole body issue thing has opened a lot of new doors for me.", said Harvey. "Starting the All-Star game is great and everything, but if I go out there naked I'll make history."

Harvey believes that he can provide the big moment that the Citi Field faithful are waiting for.

"The no-hitter was nice, but people will be telling their kids about the night they went to Citi and saw a Mets pitcher take the mound with his junk hanging out forever."

Mets Hire World Of Warcraft Nerds To Get David Wright Into The All-Star Game

W.O.W. nerds at Citi Field voting headquarters
It seems the Mets had tried everything to get David Wright his rightful starting 3B spot at this years All-Star Game at Citi Field.  The team deployed an in-stadium campaign, discounted Mets tickets, a campaign bus, a #VoteWrightNow Twitter campaign and even considered a cougar dating website cross-promotion.  Despite the enormous efforts, Wright still found himself trailing Pablo Sandoval last week. That's when the Mets finally decided to take the gloves off.

Mets Fans Speak Out on Ticket Price Increases And The All-Star Game

Last week I posted some of my frustrations with my Mets 15-Game ticket plan. I took particular exception to $63 upper deck seats for Opening Day and games vs. some team from the Bronx. The post got a huge response and I received a lot of feedback both on and off the site so I thought I would share and respond to some of it.

Jaime D. via Facebook writes:
63 dollars for upper deck for ANY regular season game is utterly ridiculous. And this is from someone who always finds a way to get to games.

No argument here. I'm pretty sure it would have been hard to even get 63 bucks on Stubhub for last year's "marquee" tickets which carried a $36 face value.  I guess one way to beat the secondary market is to eliminate the primary market and create a ticket price equally unattractive to both scalpers and actual fans alike?

Checkmate: How The Mets Used The All-Star Game To Slip A Price Increase Past Plan Holders

As the holiday season approaches it serves as a reminder that the 2013 baseball season is only a few months away. That's right, another season of the whirling dervish of uncertainty that is Mets baseball is hurtling towards us and if you're a glutton for punishment like me this means it's time for me to get pissed about my ticket plan.

If you're a Mets 15-game plan holder like me you probably received an email this week laying out the renewal process. If you opened this email you no doubt noticed the prices have gone up. Let's do some math, shall we?

2013 Mets All-Star Game Logo?

Shannon over at MetsPolice posted some pictures tweeted earlier today by @twelve_twenty. The pictures seem to show an All-Star Game logo being assembled at Citi Field. Shannon speculates that the two pieces are halves of a whole logo.  I decided to take a quick shot at assembling the image and came up with this:

Lil' Murph's Diary: Murph Goes To The All-Star Game

Dear Diary,

Bet you can't guess where I'm writing you from?  Believe it or not I'm on a bus that will take me from Kansas City (the one in Missouri not the one in some other state) to Atlanta.

You might wonder what I was doing in KC (as the locals call it).  Well I kinda thought I had made the All Star team and flew out here for the big event.  Maybe I should have known something was up when our travel guy didn't supply me with a ticket but rather I had to buy it for myself.  Even using Priceline it cost me a pretty penny.  You hearing that, Mr. Shatner????

David Wright Rips Into "Unclutch Mets Fans" Who Failed To Vote Him Into All-Star Game

David Wright will be going to the 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Game next week, as a backup. Despite leading all NL third basemen in votes for most of the year, Wright was overtaken in a late surge in fan voting by Pablo Sandoval of the San Francisco Giants. Speaking to reporters before tonight's Mets-Dodgers game, Wright uncharacteristically voiced his displeasure with Mets fans who he feels failed to come through in the clutch.

Beltran Spends Home Run Derby Selfishly Stealing Baseballs From Children

It was supposed to be a dream come true for a group of youngsters at the All-Star game in Arizona last night.  The chance to play the outfield at a major league ballpark and catch fly balls hit by your heroes.  But thanks to the game's most selfish player, the dream turned into a nightmare for many kids at last night's State Farm Home Run Derby.

Mets Marketing Department Contacts The Apple

A few days ago, we ran a piece about the All-Star game.  You may have seen our version of the 2013 logo on Metsblog.com.  Well, apparently the Mets marketing department must have seen it because on Friday night, we received this email:

Dear "The Apple",

Thank you for your interest in the proposed 2013 All-Star game.  We are excited to see how excited the fans are for this event.  However we need to ask that you make one correction to your article.  The logo you "created" for the event is not the proper logo approved by the New York Mets organization.  We are attaching a .pdf file of the proper logo so that you may share it with your readers.  Thank you for all your support and remember, better seats at lower prices are still available.

Sincerely,
Casey Johnson
NY Mets Marketing Dept.

Here is the file they attached:

To Get All-Star Game Mets Would Move Home Plate...To Second Base

It is no secret that Citi Field remains the favorite to host the 2013 All-Star Game.  However, the players union has one complaint that is keeping the MLB from finalizing it's plans: The HR Derby.  According to a source within the players union, the players are concerned about looking bad when they cannot clear Citi Field's fences in a hitting exhibition.

Today, the Mets, desperate for the added revenue of an All-Star week, have offered their solution.  Under their plan they would set up an auxiliary home plate at what is now second base and place a temporary mound in short center.  This move would only be for the derby and the ballpark would play as normally configured for the All-Star game.

Players seem to embrace the idea.  A player who wished to remain anonymous explained.  "During a game you can say the pitcher made his pitch, but when you're batting against a coach lobbing softballs, you gotta be able to go yard.  I don't think we could do that in that park.", said the player whose name rhymes with Mayan coward.  "I get enough crap about my contract already.  I don't need that on top of it."

The league is also concerned that if players took on Citi Field at full size it might lead to the return of rampant steroid abuse.  They will review the Mets proposal today and make a ruling soon.  The Mets have also not ruled out moving the derby to nearby Kiddie Field though this would have to be cleared with the office of Mr. Met.
