Mets Hope To Cash In On Giants Success By Releasing Confusingly Similar Merchandise

If you been in a Modells anywhere near New York lately you've probably noticed an atmosphere similar to the floor of the NY Stock Exchange as Giants fans scoop up every piece of merchandise they can find.  Well the Mets have noticed too and have crafted a clever line of clothing hoping to cash in on the success of the Giants by essentially tricking Giants fans into buying Mets merchandise.

Mets Take Page From New York Giants Playbook By "Accidentally" Proclaiming Themselves Champions

On Saturday night, the New York Giants accidentally posted this image proclaiming the Giants Super Bowl champions.  Unfortunately, the game was still 24 hours away.  While many were convinced the gaffe would certainly jinx the team, the Giants were apparently not affected as they went on to defeat the New England Patriots and win the Super Bowl. While the incident caused the New York Giants organization a little embarrassment it apparently also got some people in the offices of the New York Mets thinking.

New York Giants Players Blame Lack Of Focus On Jose Reyes Rumors

Yesterday in San Francisco, the New York Giants were defeated by the 49ers 27-20 and while there is no shame in falling to the now 8-1 Niners, many Giants players feel that off-field distractions may have cost them the game.  One distraction in particular: the rumor that Jose Reyes had signed with Miami.

It's Always Funny In Philadelphia

Via New York Giant Justin Tuck's twitter feed after the Giants victory in Philadelphia:
To paraphrase the Simpsons, it sounds like Philly has a discipline problem.  Maybe that's why we beat them in baseball nearly half the time.

Mets Players Protest 8PM Sunday Start Time

In a surprising show of unity every Mets player (and God knows how many there are at this point with the expanded rosters) signed a letter they have sent off to the front offices of the Mets, Cubs, and to Commissioner Bud Selig.

Here are excerpts from that letter:

Mets Agree To Terms With WR Victor Cruz

Reeling from the loss of their closer amid bizarre circumstances, the Mets made an unconventional move on Tuesday morning coming to terms with New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz.  The full terms of the deal have not been disclosed but reports are saying it is in the 3 year, 45 million dollar range.  If these reports are true, it would mean the Mets are making Cruz the highest paid non-baseball player on a major league roster.

Omar Minaya explains the thinking of the team.  "We are struggling right now.", said Minaya. "We were unable to do anything at the trade deadline so I have been looking for alternate ways to help the team.  This is about as alternate as you can get."

In the end, the deal may not matter because the whole thing is contingent on Cruz not making the Giants opening day roster.  A possibility that became less likely after Cruz put on a show on Monday Night Football last night, torching the Jets reserve secondary for 3 TD's in the latter stages of the game.

Despite the odds being against him, Minaya is excited at the possibility. "This guy has great speed and even better hands.  He really can beat you in so many ways.", said Minaya.  When The Apple asked the Mets GM whether he may be putting too much stock on one pre-season performance, Minaya responded, "Oh I didn't see the game.  I've never actually seen him play.  I just heard his name was Victor Cruz and I knew I had to sign him."
