Captain Shorts Wears The Apple's "Captain Shorts" T-Shirt On Mets Broadcast

I swear this is not Photoshopped
I was lucky enough to spend Sunday afternoon celebrating Mike Piazza at Citi Field with 800 or so friends known as The 7 Line Army. I was on my way out of Citi Field after the game when I got this tweet:

I almost fell down the steps from laughing. There was Captain Shorts doing his thing on SNY wearing one of The Apple's Captain Shorts T-Shirts on the broadcast. He even turned it backwards so that it would show on camera. I had absolutely no idea that this was happening.

Mets Look To Capitalize On Good Start By Adding New Promotional Dates

Let's face it.  Mets attendance has been on a down slope for a few years and the current edition of the team - have you noticed a decided lack of outfielders(?) - figures to continue the trend.

Since the club knows that their promotional dates do increase attendance, at least a little, they are scrambling to find more give aways and people to honor.

Here are three new promotions just announced by the team's crack PR department:

APRIL 28th  "See Wheeler and D'Arnaud in action day"

No Mets fans, these two highly touted prospects will not be on the Mets at this time and won't be at CitiField even if you will be. But the Las Vegas 51's (no offense but is that really a great name for a team from that city?  How about the Rolling Crappers?) have a home game scheduled that afternoon vs Tacoma while the Mets will be finishing up their "game" with Philadelphia on that Sunday afternoon.

Once the 51's' game starts it will be showed in its entirety on the big scoreboard.  Actually they'll stop showing the game when D'Arnaud and Wheeler are both removed from the game.

#ShowTheMetsYourDickey Winners!

I asked you guys to "Show The Mets Your Dickey" and boy did you.  So many great pics came in it was hard to pick just three winners. In the end we had an R.A. Dickey lookalike, a devoted fan's collection and one enormous Dickey.

Here are the three winning entries who will each receive a copy of the documentary Knuckleball on DVD courtesy of MPI/Filmbuff.

Show The Mets Your Dickey And Win A Copy Of Knuckleball on DVD!

Since the Mets traded away R.A. Dickey in the off-season, many fans have accused the team of trying to erase R.A. Dickey from the collective memories of Mets fans for some reason.

While I don't believe it is intentional, the Mets are giving conspiracy theorists fuel for the fire by omitting Dickey from the team's holiday highlight film e-card and then removing the knuckleballer from the team leaders on Mets.com. (According to the site, Jon Niese led the team with 12 wins)

These could clearly be dismissed as minor oversights but on Wednesday, the Mets own Media Director Jay Horwitz sent out this tweet and brought the wrath of #MetsTwitter down on his adorable head.

Robotic Exoskeleton Allows Horwitz To Return To Work With Mets

As reported yesterday, Mets PR Director Jay Horwitz was forced to miss his first game since 1990 when he broke his ankle walking to work.  Fortunately, thanks to modern technology, Horwitz will be right back at Citi Field when the Mets battle the Cubs this evening.

SNY To Air Ike Davis Hanukkah Special Tonight

Tonight the SNY network will enter the world of animation when they air what they hope will become an instant holiday classic titled An Ike Davis Hanukkah.

The 30 minute animated special will feature the voice talents of Ike Davis, Jay Horwitz and others.  It will follow the exploits of Ike Davis as he sets out to find the true meaning of Hanukkah.

SNY released this description:

 An Ike Davis Hanukkah

Ike Davis, feeling that the Hanukkah message is lost amid all the seasonal glitter, has the blues. When our hapless hero sets out to find a menorah to use as a stage prop in his Hebrew School play, he unknowingly takes a step toward discovering the holiday's true meaning. The scraggly menorah that thrives on a "little love" and a timely assist from Jay Horwitz make the message of the season come shining through.

An Ike Davis Hanukkah will debut tonight at 8PM and will air at the top of every hour for the next six days.  It will alternate with a 30 minute commercial for the Ninja Blender.

Mr. Met/Phanatic Suspended After Altercation At Local Night Spot

With the Mets on a roll and an off day on the schedule, Mr. Met decided it would be a good time to head down to Philly with some friends and blow off some steam.  Unfortunately for Mr. Met, what seemed like a good idea now has the lovable Mets mascot facing a 3 game suspension and possible criminal charges.

The trouble began at around 1:AM at Chez Plushie, a popular Philadelphia night club that caters to mascot types.  Mr. Met was at the club with his entourage which included Sandy the Seagull, Buster The Bison, Cowbell Man and of course Jay Horwitz.  According to witnesses, The Philly Phanatic, who was also at the club, began to give Mr. Met "The Whammy" from across the room and Mr. Met took offense.  This only provoked the Phanatic further who then began making a choke sign at the Mr. Met.

Jim Schmidt of Allentown was at the club that night.  "At first it seemed more playful than anything.", recalls Schmidt.  "There really weren't any words being exchanged, but I guess that might because these things don't talk.  All I know is all of a sudden the fur was flying, literally."

Allegedly, Mr. Met crossed the dance floor and began choking the Phanatic.  The two began exchanging blows until they were briefly separated by members of club security.  Unfortunately the pair got loose and the fight was on again.

It was at this time that witnesses say an as yet unidentified member of Mr. Met's entourage went to his car and returned firing a 9mm handgun wildly into the club.  Fortunately, no one was hit as clubgoers rushed to flee the scene.

Philadelphia Police have taken both Mr. Met and the Phanatic into custody until they can determine what charges, if any, will be filed.

The league however is not taking a wait and see approach as both mascots are suspended for this weekend's series.
