In Memory of
METS HOPES (1962-2011)
After a long lingering illness, Mets Hopes died in Queens New York in December of 2011.
Hopes was born in April of 1962 and, while his family heritage is not totally known, it is believed that Hopes had some NY Giants and Brooklyn Dodger blood in him.
During his lifetime, Hopes had moments of exaltation. His youth was at its zenith in the fall of 1969 with another uptick in 1973. Certainly Hopes could not have gotten much higher than in 1986. But, alas, most of his life was a series of setbacks and disappointments.
What ultimately drove Mets Hopes to his death was a financial downfall. Hopes was one of many who invested unwisely, and in his case fatally, with the unscrupulous Bernard Madoff. Mets Hopes ultimately died from drowning in a sea of debt.
While there will be no formal wake for Hopes, there will be 81 viewings set at CitiField in Flushing over a period of six months beginning in April. Refreshments will be served at a nominal price (e.g. $8.00 for beer).
Despite calls to "KEEP HOPES ALIVE" it is feared that we have seen the last of Mets Hopes.
