Earlier this week, @Ceetar sent me an article about the ongoing eminent domain dispute at Willets Point. I decided to do a little digging and what I found out was quite surprising. While many blame the lack of progress on stubborn business owners, it turns out that the entire project is actually being held up by one stubborn old man. The Apple has learned that Carl Fredricksen, a Yankees fan, owns the only residence in the affected area and he has no intention of leaving.
When confronted by The Apple, Mayor Bloomberg confirmed that Fredricksen is indeed the final obstacle blocking the re-development of Willets Point. "He's really been a thorn in our side during this whole process.", said the Mayor. "We've tried to make him listen to reason but he keeps going on about his dead wife or something."
As for the Mets, it appears their recent financial problems are not stopping the Mets from lending a hand in the process. According to reports, the team has assembled an army of staffers and players to stand outside Fredricksen's home with shovels in hopes of intimidating the man into leaving. So far it has been ineffective.
