Today at The Academy of Finance & Enterprise in Long Island City, New York Mets greats, Ed Kranepool and Doug Flynn, will lead a roster of Mets alumni teaching financial education to high school students to support Junior Achievement of NY. While the roster includes Matt Franco, Wayne Garrett, Jerry Grote and Felix Millan, it is someone who is not on the guest list that has the school concerned.
Former Mets outfielder Lenny Dykstra, who has repeatedly contacted the school about speaking to the students, has been banned from the building but the school is worried that won't be enough. "The goal of the academy is to send these students out into the world with the best understanding of how finance works in the US and the world.", said a rep for the school. "Just five minutes with Mr. Dykstra could set their education back years. We can't let that happen."
At the school, signs have been posted at all entrances to the building warning security to not admit Dykstra and warning students to not take financial advice from him. In addition, students were handed a list of ten reasons you should never invest with Len Dykstra. The first reason chronicled his recent bankruptcy. The other nine reasons were just pictures of Dykstra. If he does show up, security has been instructed to taze him on site.
Despite the looming threat, the school is cautiously optimistic. "In the end, we can only cross our fingers and pray that we've done enough to shield these students from the damaging effects of Mr. Dykstra."
