Mets slugger David Wright was spotted at Citi Field Monday morning checking in on the progress of the new shorter fences at the ballpark. A source inside the Mets organization confirmed that Wright's "injury" is indeed nothing more than a cover story to allow the third baseman to visit the now more hitter friendly ballpark.
"He kept bothering us about the fences, asking us everyday if they were really getting done.", says the source. "Finally we just said screw and came up with this whole injury thing to let him go see them for himself. If it keeps him happy and boosts his confidence, it's worth it."
Wright is expected to rejoin the team later this week around the same time Jason Bay is scheduled to fly to New York for treatment of a "to be determined" injury.
