Mets Star Wars Night Marred By Violence / Hooliganism

It was supposed to be a night of fun to promote the release of the Star Wars Blu Ray set and raise some money for a great cause, but last nights Star Wars night promotion at Citi Field ended up being far more trouble than stadium security could handle.

The bulk of the trouble came from Star Trek fans who could not pass up the opportunity to provoke fans of a different brand of nerdery.  Fights broke out all over the stadium.  Many Star Trek fans were injured but the ones in red shirts seemed to get the worst of it.

There was also plenty of violence among Star Wars fans as Jedi clashed with Sith as well. Outside the stadium an arm was found on the Citi Field Fanwalk.  "We just heard someone yell 'You'll be dead' and then there was a commotion.", says one security guard. "By the time we got there everyone was gone. You know for a peace loving society, these Jedi sure seem to lop off body parts with very little provocation."

Beyond violence there was also a lot of general hooliganism.  Walls were vandalized with anti-empire graffiti, droids were stolen and someone released a bunch of womp rats near Shake Shack.  Citi Field staff had a difficult time rounding up the womp rats as they are not much bigger than 2 meters.

In the most publicized incident, a man dressed as something called a "Jar Jar" led security on five minute chase around the field, delaying the game and infuriating the players.

When The Apple asked one of the Jedi in attendance what he thought of all the trouble, he simply told us, "You do not want a quote from me.  You are finished writing your stupid story."

I didn't want a quote from him.  I am finished writing my stupid story.
